Treat Others the Way You Want to be Treated

Reading about Jennings experience with the Carpenter was not pleasant my group member or myself. At first I thought that everything was going to go okay when Mr. Carpenter adopted Jennings.  I was happy for him but once they got home all my thoughts scattered.  It was very tough reading on and knowing that abuse detailed in the story happens everyday, everywhere.  Being a young boy and not having any love and care directed to you is hard. Things were not going great for Jennings throughout his stay with the carpenters. First of all, he was only adopted due to the fact that the couple needed extra money and second of all, they didn’t even try to care for him.  Mrs. Carpenter was very nasty towards Jennings.  It obviously showed that she had absolutely no feelings for him.  One very important thing that keeps people alive is food but Mrs. Carpenter clearly didn’t think hat Jennings needed any. All he was fed was a bowl of oatmeal each day.  One event that drew the line for me was when he was being physically abused.  It was just wrong.  He spent hours under “his” little table, the only place he can be in at the house, getting away from Mrs. Carpenter until he husband came home.  The way this child was treated was horrific and I could never imagine being in his position.
